It’s October! Pumpkins, orange leaves, sweaters, cozy blankets, candles, pumpkin spice lattes, and Halloween are back! If you are having trouble thinking of any costumes, this is the article for you.
If you want to dress up as something classic, try going for a witch, a cat, or a pumpkin. Currently, cats are a very popular costume among junior high schoolers. All you need is some cat ears, some black leggings, a black sweater, and a tail. You can find a tail at any costume store and even some craft stores. If you want to go heavy on the makeup, you should start with a base of black face paint. Next, draw some whiskers on your cheeks and a nose. To finish off the look, you can draw some (cat) eyes on your eyelids using green and black face paint.
If you are going for more of a casual look and aren’t as into the costumes, something simple like a football player (if you aren’t one already) should do the trick. For this costume, you should buy a jersey (which can be found at any sports store and some regular clothing stores), some running shoes, and leggings. For the makeup, some simple black lines underneath the eyes (using face paint, eyeliner, or eyeshadow) is perfect, simple, and gets the job done.
Fictional characters are very popular among teenagers. Some books to base a costume off of include The Fault in Our Stars (or any John Green book), Divergent by Veronica Roth, and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. If you want to be Tris from Divergent, for example, you would need a leather jacket, some black leggings, and a black tank top. For her tattoos, you could either paint them on with black body paint or buy a pack of them online or from a costume store.
Another idea is being a celebrity or somebody famous. Most pop stars wear shiny clothing or extravagant costumes on stage (accompanied by a microphone). If you want to do a partner costume, you and your friend could be some famous celebrity best friends and couples like Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, Jay-Z and Beyoncé, or if you want to go with something more reserved, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. Anyone who sees you wearing a costume will recognize the actor or singer, and if you dress up as someone you really admire, anyone who compliments your costume could become your new best friend!
Halloween is a time where you can dress up as whoever or whatever you want to, so embrace this time to be as creative as you want to be. Halloween is on a Saturday this year, so you will have lots of time to prepare a last-minute costume! Good luck!
