Earth Day, April 22, is a day where people celebrate our planet and give back to the earth. This year is the 46th annual Earth Day. Earth Day this year and the 4 years following are different than most years because of a proposal that the Earth Day Network made called “Trees for the Earth”. Their plan is to plant 7.8 billion trees over the next five years, until the year 2020 (50th year anniversary). This plan is one of five big endeavors they are hoping to accomplish between 2016 and 2020. These trees will help purify our air and fight climate change.
One way you can support this big movement is by directly donating to the Earth Day Network or participating in their climate change petition. Other ways you can help the earth, according to the Earth Day Network, include eating less meat, composting, ending the use of disposable plastic, and buying local produce. Additionally, you can come join the fun at the Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival, April 16 and 17, while supporting organizations who have the power to help our world and make it a cleaner place.
