When I first started at SBJHS, I quickly noticed many changes between elementary school and junior high. First of all, there’s free breakfast and lunch for all students. At the elementary school where I attended, Cold Spring School, lunch could be up to 8 dollars a day, just for the main course! Here at the SBJHS the first main course is free and the second is $3.25. It’s less than half the price of an elementary school lunch!
Another change between elementary school and Santa Barbara Junior High was the fact that we have more than one teacher. There is a different teacher for math, science, English, history, and P.E. Students can have 5 to 8 per day. There are also 0 periods that some students have in the morning. In between classes, we have about 4 minutes to get to our next class. I have enjoyed changing classes because of the independence of not having a teacher following you around everywhere like in elementary schools.
Changing into P.E. clothes is another difference between grades K-6 and 7-8. Before P.E., all students must go into the locker room to change into their P.E. outfits. If you forget your own clothes, you have to wear loner clothes for the day.
One last difference is there is so many more students than at my old school. Junior high is so different from elementary school and that is what I like about it.
After so long at elementary school, it is good to go to a new school and meet new people.
