Movies To Be Released in 2017

By Somerset New-Stein

2016 has been a great year for movies. Like Deadpool, which is now the highest grossing Rated-R movie of all time. Several great sequels to popular movies came out this year as well, including “Finding Dory” and “Everybody Want’s Some”. All these movies and we still have even more coming this year! But I want to focus a bit farther into the future. So here are my top picks for the most prominent movies of 2017

Beauty And The Beast

When I was 3 years old I would force my parents to sit through Beauty and The Beast over and over and over. It was probably my favorite Disney movie, so you can imagine I’m excited for the live action remake. The movie has an amazing cast including Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger in the “Harry Potter” movies. Beauty and The Beast also stars Josh Gad, Ian McKellen, and Luke Evans.

Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2

The first “Guardians of The Galaxy” really caught me off guard. I had no idea that it would actually become one of my favorite superhero movies of all time. The original cast of the first movies is coming back with even more people along with them, like Kurt Russell, who is going to be playing Chris Pratt’s father.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Just like “Guardians of The Galaxy” I had did not know this James Bond-esque comedy would be so great. The first cast is coming back to be in the second movie, but what I’m really excited for is Channing Tatum, who I think is going to be really funny addition to the already great cast. Kingsman breathed new life into the spy genre, and I really hope that the sequel delivers even more than the first.

Justice League

Personally I’ve lost a little faith in DC in the past few years (movie wise). Everytime I see that DC is making another movie, I keep thinking that it will be better than the last. But on the contrary, they are getting worse. I really hope that DC has paid attention to the criticism, and made Justice League a better movie than its predecessors.

Kong Skull Island

I am very excited for Kong Skull Island. It has an amazing cast, and the trailer looks awesome as well. Kong Skull island follows a team of explorers in the 1970’s that go to an uncharted island in the middle of the pacific, little do they know that it is inhabited by a beast known as Kong.  I actually liked the latest King Kong movie, with Jack Black, but I hope that Skull Island will be even better.

World War Z 2

I’m a very big fan of horror, zombies movies especially. I really liked the book “World War Z” by Max Brooks, but I don’t think that the movie version of it was spectacular. Literally the whole 3rd act of of the movie was changed and reshot in a very short amount of time, making the ending feel rushed and unsatisfying. Hopefully World War Z 2 doesn’t have to have reshoots and is just an all around better movie.

The Lego Batman Movie

“The Lego Movie” in my eyes is one of the greatest animated movies of all time. It was a travesty that it was not even nominated for Best Animated Picture, two years ago. Although this isn’t a direct sequel to the movie, I think that it might be even better than the first one. Will Arnett is coming back to play Batman once more, along with Michael Cera as Robin. I think that The Lego Batman Movie is going to be a great.

Captain Underpants

Let me set the scene: It was 2006 and I was waiting with my mom in Barnes and Noble for the special edition release of Captain Underpants and The Preposterous Plight of The Purple Potty People. Not only did it have a 3D holographic cover, it also came with a special Captain Underpants CD. After about an hour of waiting I got my hands on a copy of the book. I read the book the whole way on the bus ride back to our apartment in New York. I have read every single Captain Underpants book and when I found out that a Captain Underpants movie is coming out I almost cried. I really really hope that it isn’t bad, because that would make me very sad.

2017 seems like it’s going to be a great year for movies. Movies are fun and entertaining to watch, and I always love hearing that there are lots of movies coming out, that I and many other people can enjoy.
