Rain Reign is about a girl with autism, her mother died when she was young leaving her with her troubled father. Rose, the main character, gets most of the support and care from her uncle who drives her to school every day and helps out her father a lot. Another thing about Rose is she loves homonyms, that is why she names her dog Rain. One day a huge hurricane come to her town and Rain gets out leaving Rose with a damaged home and no dog.
- Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
Speak is about a highschool student who has lost all her friends. Coming with that she loses the need to speak. She decides she would be better off just not talking to anyone. There is a reason why Melinda doesn’t have friends. Throughout the story the author will give the reader clues to what Melinda did over the summer. Also, she has an art class, it happens to be her favorite class. In that class Melinda gets assigned a subject for all of her art projects that year. With that Melinda winds her way through the halls just trying to get through the day.
- Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson
The book is set in the 18th century Chains is about a slave named Isabel and her little sister Ruth. Both of their parents had died in advance to the story. Isabel and Ruth are both living together as slaves for some pretty nice people and then are sold to the most unruly master they could that they could ever imagine. Day after day the girls are worked until their body aches. They meet a young man named Curzon, who convinces Isabel to start helping the rebels. Isabel has to sneak out of the house at night to help them. The story is filled with tons of suspense and you’ll never know what is coming next.

Heidi is about a young girl named Heidi who lives with her grandpa on mountains above Frankfurt, a town in Germany. She lives with another family who has a house further down the mountain. They have a boy named Peter who herds the goats. Heidi loves to play and run with the goats. But one day her Uncle decides to sell her to a family down in Frankfurt. Heidi meets a young girl named Clara who can’t walk. Clara’s mother is very rude to Heidi and doesn’t want her at the house. Heidi loves Clara but wants to leave so badly, take a journey with Heidi as she walks through the streets of Frankfurt.
- Flush by Carl Hiaasen
Flush is about a boy named Noah and his family. His father is in jail for sinking a boat called the coral casino. He decided to sink it because he is sure that the boat owners have been dumping raw sewage into the marina. This has made swimming in the marina like swimming in a toilet. However soon after the boat was sunk the casino is up and running again while Noah’s father is still in jail. Noah, being like his father, is determined to catch the Coral Casino, somehow.
- Wonder by R.J. Palacio
Wonder is an award winning novel about a boy named August at the age of 10. August has been homeschooled all his life due to dramatic craniofacial abnormality and the busy schedule that comes with it. When August finally gets put into normal school he has a hard time fitting in with the other students. He ends up getting bullied by some of the other kids making him feel alone and sad. However he does make two new friends that are kind and stick up for him.
